Demon Slayer Manga Wins The 50th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards


The Japan Cartoonists Association established the Japan Cartoonists Association Awards in 1972 to honor outstanding works with the aim of promoting the spread of manga culture and the improvement and development of the manga world. The winners of its 50th Awards for the year 2021 were announced on July 26.

 

The Grand Prize winner of its comic category was Koyoharu Gotouge's dark fantasy series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Shueisha). The reason for the award is written as follows: "We would like to pay homage to this passionate and moving work that shows that manga can move the hearts of so many people." Meanwhile, the Grand Prize winner of its cartoon category was Joruju Piroshiki's NEW NORMAL! (self-publishing work). The prize money for the Grand Prize is 500,000 yen (about 4,500 USD), and the award ceremony will be held at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on October 1.

- Comic Category: "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" (Koyoharu Gotoge)

- Cartoon Category: "NEW NORMAL!" (Joruju Piroshiki)

Comic Kingdom of Tosa Award (200,000 yen)

 

"EYEMASK" by Sotensha

 

Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (200,000 yen):

 

"Okiagai Koboshi Project"

 (An art project that continues to be created with the aim of calling for mutual understanding in society after the Great East Japan Earthquake)
